OVERVIEW
What Is RF Front-End Design?
RF front-end design encompasses the transmit and receive circuitry connecting antennas to the RF transceiver in wireless systems, including millimetre-wave (mmWave) and beamforming architectures. It typically includes power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, RF switches, filtering and impedance-matching networks, bypass paths, related control circuits, package integration, and antenna interfaces.
For phased-array and beamforming systems, the scope also includes signal distribution, phase and amplitude control, and array calibration to enable precise beam steering and shaping.
These elements are designed to meet system requirements for link budget, receiver sensitivity, linearity, power efficiency, spectral emissions, and beamforming performance.
When Is a Custom RFFE IC Needed?
A custom RF front-end IC is needed when off-the-shelf solutions cannot meet critical performance, integration, or form-factor requirements. Custom design enables power-amplifier efficiency and linearity, receiver noise figure, switch insertion loss, signal routing, impedance matching, and packaging to be optimized together for the target application.
WHY COREHW
Why CoreHW for RF Front-End Design?
RF, mmWave, and Antenna Expertise
CoreHW combines RFIC and mmWave IC design, antenna knowledge, package-aware RF layout, measurement capability, and broader ASIC service experience. The design scope includes LNAs, PAs, mixers, oscillators, buffers, modulators, antenna switches, filters, ADCs, and DACs.
Subsystem-Level Optimization
Antenna-side performance is rarely solved by one circuit block alone. PA efficiency, LNA noise figure, switch insertion loss, package parasitics, antenna matching, filtering, thermal behavior, and measurement correlation must be engineered as one RF front-end subsystem.
End-to-End ASIC Capability
CoreHW supports system design, IC design, RF layout, verification, tape-out assistance, test, qualification, and production support across RF/mmWave, analog, mixed-signal, digital, RF Front-End, and antenna disciplines.
Measurement and Production Readiness
Testability, characterization, production readiness, and industrialization can be considered early rather than treated as late-stage issues. This creates a clearer path from feasibility and silicon validation to qualification and manufacturing transfer.

TESTABILITY AND PRODUCTION
Design for Testability and Production-Test Development
CoreHW integrates testability and production-readiness considerations into RF Front-End and RFIC development so devices can be validated, characterized, qualified, and transferred to manufacturing efficiently. Depending on the project, this can include test-mode architecture, RF and analog test access, calibration hooks, monitoring signals, status readout, production-test planning, automated measurement flows, and documentation for engineering validation and production transfer.
Production readiness is especially important in RF Front-End design because PA efficiency, LNA noise figure, switch insertion loss, output power, spectrum behavior, bias settings, antenna and matching performance, and temperature or supply variation must be measured in repeatable test flows.
Test Strategy Definition
Plan testability from the specification and architecture phases across RF, analog, mixed-signal, digital, and control functions. This reduces production risk and avoids discovering test-access gaps after tape-out.
RF and Analog Test Access
Define suitable test modes, RF or analog test points, test multiplexers, status outputs, and debug access. This supports PA, LNA, switch, bias, tuning, detector, PLL, and control validation during bring-up and production test.
Calibration and Monitoring
Add calibration hooks, monitoring registers, lock or status indicators, temperature or level sensing, and production-adjustable settings where required. This supports repeatable RF performance across process, voltage, temperature, and production variation.
Built-In Test and Diagnostics
Add built-in self-test features, power-on checks, periodic checks, and diagnostic reporting where applicable to the project. This can support automotive, safety-relevant, and high-reliability systems when included in the agreed scope.
Production-Test Development
Support wafer, package, final, RF, system-level, and calibration test planning, including production data and reporting flows. This enables the transition from engineering validation to scalable manufacturing.
Automated Characterization
Use automated measurements, database storage, PDF reporting, and ASCII data export for analysis and documentation. This improves traceability, repeatability, and correlation between simulation, laboratory results, and production data.
Industrialization Support
Support production ramp-up and manufacturing transfer, including collaboration with industrialization partners where needed. This helps customers move from custom RFFE design to qualified and manufacturable silicon.
